In recognition of Memorial Day, the City of North Liberty welcomes the public to attend a free Civil War history performance at Hy-Vee Center at Centennial Park on Friday, May 29.

Arrive at noon for a free performance of “Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant” by Pete Grady, former Iowa Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General. Performance run time is approximately 70 minutes. No need to register for this program, just drop-in!

This event is made possible by a grant through Humanities Iowa and the State Historical Society, Inc. of Iowa. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa brings humanities programs into the heart of Iowa communities.

“Unconditional Surrender” features period music, photographs, and cartoons as Grant reviews his life as he struggles to complete his memoirs just days before his death at the age of 63. The program is an informative, humorous, and touching portrayal of the victorious General whose strategy and tenacity won the Civil War, the President who struggled to rebuild his nation after the war, and the husband and father whose final efforts were devoted to the financial support of his wife and family.

Persons over 55 years of age are welcome to register for the pre-performance 55+ Connections Lunch on RecDesk beginning May 1.
