Open Book Program at WDM Public Library
June 3 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Join Humanities Iowa for an Open Book program at West Des Moines Public Library — an evening of storytelling, dialogue, and authentic personal connection.
Meet the Books:
- Fazal Moneer Adil – A first-generation Afghan refugee, writer, community leader, and entrepreneur, Fazal’s life has spanned multiple countries and cultures. He now advocates for and supports refugee families in Iowa through his work with the Iowa Afghan Community and Cultural Organization (IACCO).
- Sylvia Nemmers – Born blind and told she shouldn’t study science, Sylvia persevered to earn a PhD in Environmental Science (Soil Chemistry) and now chairs one of the largest environmental science programs in the U.S. She has lived in six countries and seven states and is fluent in Arabic.
This free program invites participants to hear, reflect, and engage with these compelling stories, fostering dialogue and connection across diverse experiences.
