Open Book

November 16 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

What helps us feel connected—to other people, to our families, and to the places and traditions that shape us? Join us for an Open Book program featuring Tracy Codel and R.J. Hernandez, two storytellers who will share personal chapters of their lives and invite you to reflect on the connections that have shaped your own.

After finding herself navigating loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic alongside an unknown medical condition, Des Moines native Tracy Codel began a year-long journey in 2021: walking with a different friend each week and sharing their experiences through a blog. She will share how time in nature and intentional connection with others helped restore her sense of gratitude and community.

Musician, chef and entrepreneur R.J. Hernandez will share the story of his father, whose guitar was a constant companion and who passed down music, culture and life lessons to his son. Through his story, R.J. explores the enduring connections between family, heritage and the traditions we carry forward and share with others.

Come listen, reflect and connect through two personal stories about friendship, family, culture, community and the people who help us find our way.
