Hawkeye Community College: Liberal Arts Mini-Con
April 14 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
The Liberal Arts Mini-Con (LAMC) is an interdisciplinary event celebrating student research, creative work, and service learning while highlighting the value of a Liberal Arts education. Connected to the 2025–26 Hawkeye Reads selection, They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, this year’s programming explores themes of resilience, memory, democracy, and state-based violence. A public panel discussion featuring a former POW, an Afghan refugee and author, and a survivor of the Rwandan genocide will humanize these issues through lived experience and historical context.
Hear the panel speak at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at the Hawkeye Community College Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center.
This program is supported in part by a Humanities Iowa Mini Grant.
