How can we have productive conversations when the issues that matter most can also divide us? Join veteran newspaper editor Randy Cauthron for Being Civil in an Uncivil World, a thoughtful discussion about navigating difficult conversations in an increasingly divided world.

Cauthron spent more than three decades in community journalism, earning more than 40 Iowa Newspaper Association awards and receiving the organization’s Master Editor-Publisher honor in 2024. Throughout his career, he has interviewed presidential candidates, U.S. presidents, lawmakers, elected officials, and—most importantly to him—the people who make their communities go. He has also moderated political forums at both the local and statewide level.

Drawing on those experiences, Cauthron will share practical approaches to discussing issues that divide us while maintaining respect for one another. The program will include time for questions and conversation, offering attendees an opportunity to consider how we can listen, communicate and engage more thoughtfully—even when we disagree.
